Solitaire Home Story is a puzzle card game where you play through multiple levels of the solitaire card game which helps you unlock home renovations as you slowly unfold the dramatic story set in the town of Brook's End.
How to Play Solitaire Home Story
You play as Alice, who has just returned to her childhood home with her friend Tara, a few years after her mom passed away, only to find the place in terrible shape. The house is damaged, potentially on fire, and her dad is nowhere to be found. Making things worse, if Alice cannot get the ranch fixed up in time, the town mayor will have it torn down. The story unfolds as you play through solitaire rounds, with each game you complete helping repair and clean up a portion of the house.
Alice discovers through Tara that her dad has fallen into some shady dealings while struggling on his own since her mom passed. Things take a darker turn when Alice finds a threatening note and a knife inside the house, making it clear her dad is in serious danger. The mystery of where he has gone drives the narrative forward as you keep completing rounds. After all the tension and buildup, you eventually find him safe in the basement, where it turns out he had been searching for Oscar's dog bed the entire time.
The Core Card Game
The solitaire mechanic is straightforward. There is a base card displayed at the bottom of the screen, and your job is to tap cards from the layout that are one value higher or one value lower than that base card. For example, if the base card is a 7, you can play a 6 or an 8. That played card then becomes the new base, and you continue chaining up or down from there. If you get stuck and have no playable cards available, tap the deck to draw a new base card and keep going.
As you get more comfortable with the chaining mechanic, you can aim for streaks by clearing five cards in a row without tapping the deck. Pulling off a streak earns you reward bonuses that help you progress faster through the story.
Joker cards act as wildcards that you can use when you are stuck. Beyond that, the game offers a variety of boosters you can deploy to smash through tougher levels. You will also run into blockers that shake things up, like mischievous squirrels that block your cards from being played. Tools like wrecking balls can clear the entire board when things get out of hand. Each new level tends to introduce a fresh twist, so no two rounds feel exactly the same.
Home Renovation
Between card games, the story gives you tasks to complete around the house. You can check your current to-do list by tapping on the table in the game. Completing solitaire rounds clears tasks and unlocks new parts of the house to restore. The renovation side of the game lets you act as a designer, choosing new rugs, floors, furniture, and more to transform each room. As you progress, you unlock additional spaces like the veranda, the spa, and the library, each of which hides deeper family mysteries to uncover.
Characters You Will Meet
Alice is not on her own throughout the journey. Her friend Tara is there with her from the start, and she quickly reunites with Oscar the dog. She also meets Dee Dee, a mischievous lamb, and Jako, a talkative macaw. Along the way, she encounters quirky characters, including her dad, Lavinia, a mystical fortune-teller, and Nate, her childhood crush. The game weaves relationship building and a few secrets worth keeping into the story alongside all the card gameplay.
