How to Play Kick the Buddy

The gameplay is extremely simple - you just need to click on Buddy to attack him. Each tap throws a punch and Buddy will react, letting you know he is not happy. Every hit fills the meter at the top of the screen. Once the meter is full, Buddy goes down for the count and you get coins based on how much damage you dealt.

Coins and gems are tracked in the top-right corner of the screen. Coins are earned the more you play.

Rewards and Upgrades

Log in each day to claim rewards. Rewards escalate as you go and include coins (3,000–7,000+), gems (10–50), and themed bonus items like Claws, Torch, and Snail. A "Claim" button collects the day's reward.

After certain milestones (like a knockout), you may see a gift box prompt offering a bonus reward. Choose "Continue" to watch a short ad and claim it, or "No thanks" to skip and keep playing.

Buddy's Notepad

Tap the gun icon in the top-left corner to open Buddy's Notepad, your hub for everything in the game. It's split into four sections:

Stuff (the weapons)

This is the arsenal with over 20 categories filled with over 150+ weapons to mess with Buddy. Each category shows a number showing you how many items are waiting in that category. Some categories are marked “new” or “soon" so the category is ever growing.

Profile (customize Buddy)

The Profile tab opens into the Wardrobe, where you can dress Buddy up. You can unlock items with either coins or gems. Premium items are marked with a crown icon. A "Clear" button lets you strip everything back off.

• Boots: Free to 2,000 coins (Dancing Boots)
• Caps: 500–990 coins, or 49 gems for premium designs
• Hats: 990–1,990 coins or 49 gems, with some free (Pirate Hat, Suit, Uncle Sam)
• Everyday masks: 49–99 gems, with some free; Rabbit Ears is 1,500 coins
• Glasses: 750–1,990 coins
• Helmets: Free to 1,990 coins
• Wrestling/character masks: 49 gems, with some free
• Novelty items: 99 gems to 1,990 coins (Pumpkin Mask, Liberty Mask)
• Costumes: 49–149 gems or free (Santa, Uncle Sam, Ghost, Mummy, Skeleton, Vampire, Zombie, Your Boss, Squid Costume)
• Coming soon: Locked (Test Subject, Street, Wizard Costume)

Extra (stats and settings)

• Achievements: Unlockable badges for milestones, like "First Blood" for landing your first hit, or using every saw in the game.
• Statistics: Tracks Total Games Played, Buddy's Age (in days), Available Stuff (out of 168), Knockouts, Earned Coins, Explosions, Shots fired, and even Poured Pea Soup (measured in points).
• Sound: Toggle sound effects on or off.
• Voice: Toggle Buddy's voice lines on or off.

Decor (change the room)

Decor lets you change the setting Buddy hangs out in, from a plain Cardboard Box up to elaborate themed rooms:

• Cardboard Box: Starting room
• Sewer: Free and premium
• Switch Room: 35,000 coins
• Padded Cell: 48,000 coins
• Scarred Box: 53,000 coins
• Fancy Meadow: 78,000 coins
• Sweet Spot: 58,000 coins
• Patriot's Hall: 35,000 coins
• Laboratory: Unlocked via "Pass"
• Gang: Coming soon
• Magic Hall: Coming soon

Buddy Has a Personality

Part of the charm of Kick the Buddy is that Buddy isn't a silent punching bag, He actually talks back.

If you leave him waiting too long, he'll try to make conversation with phrases like:

• "Can you hold the phone steady, I'm gonna snooze for a while?"
• "Would you like a nice energy drink?"
• "So what brings you here?"
• "Come on, let's have some tea and biscuits."
• "We could play something, but don't be rough."
• "Boring!"
• "Can I go watch the X-Files?"
• "I live in a box."
• "Do you have anything I could read in this box?"

While you're attacking him, he will say things like:

• "Oh, the pain!"

If you walk away and come back, he actually seems to miss you and says things like:

• "Golly, I've missed you!"

If you don’t want to hear the commentary, go to Buddy's Notepad, then hit Extra and click on Voice to toggle it off. Buddy’s commentary is half the fun of this game, so you may want to reconsider turning the volume off.

Tip

Leave Buddy waiting sometimes. His idle lines are some of the best ones in the game. Enjoy them.
